Handcrafted in The Old Joinery, Berkhamsted, the Sherwood bed frame embodies both elegance and endurance.

Its defining feature is the recessed angled solid oak legs, carefully fitted to the bed frame sides with an expressed jigsaw-style joint. This visible joint detail celebrates the craftsmanship while creating an extremely clean, strong, and visually striking finish.

The leg functions as both the support and statement piece in the design.

The legs are positioned approximately 200mm in from each end of the bed, so they sit away from the corners and make it less likely you’ll knock your feet as you walk around the frame. Each leg has a rounded angled profile with gentle curves and crisp lines, giving the frame a refined yet grounded presence.

Are the legs and rails one piece of timber?

Yes. Our legs, side rails and main cross rails are made from genuine solid oak components.

Are your oak bed frames truly solid oak?

Yes. The main structural oak components of our bed frames are made from solid European oak timber.

Do you use blockboard?

No. We do not use blockboard in our solid oak bed frames.

Do you use finger-jointed oak?

No. We do not use finger-jointed oak for the visible rails, legs or main oak bed frame components.

Do you use oak veneer?

No. We do not use oak veneer for the main structural oak bed frame.

Is laminated solid oak the same as veneer?

No. Laminated solid oak is made from real oak boards joined together to create a wider panel. Veneer is a thin decorative layer applied over another core material.

What does truly solid oak mean?

It means the main oak bed frame is made from real solid European oak, not veneer, blockboard, finger jointed timber or an oak-effect surface over a cheaper core.

Why are some larger panels laminated?

Large panels, such as integrated headboards or deep footboards, may need to be made from full-length solid oak boards laminated together. Oak does not naturally come in every wide panel size, and very wide single boards can be more likely to cup, bow or move over time.

Why do you use beech multiplex ply in bed bases?

Beech multiplex ply is a strong specialist material used for bed base support systems. It is
selected because it performs well structurally and is better suited to certain support components than solid oak.
