The Old Joinery - Berkhamsted specialises in creating made-to-order Small Double 4ft Oak bed frames that are designed to meet your specific requirements. 4ft beds are also referred to as Three Quarter Beds (3/4); and a Prince size beds. It is wider that a single and smaller than a Double.
Small Double beds are typically designed for one person who prefers a little extra sleeping space. It can also accommodate two sleepers, who like to snuggle up close together while sleeping. They are also ideal for teenagers or young adults who are transitioning from a single bed to a larger size
Our 4ft bed frames are designed to fit standard UK mattresses, which measure 1200mm (4ft) in width and 1900mm (6ft 3”) in length.

A Small Double Bed Mattress is 120cm (4ft) wide and 190cm (6ft 3") long. It is larger than a Single bed mattress and smaller than a standard UK Double bed mattress.

Is a small double bed frame designed for 1 sleeper or 2 sleepers?+ -
A small double bed frame is typically designed to accommodate one sleeper, but it can also be used for two sleepers who don't mind sleeping in close proximity. It provides more sleeping space than a single bed but is narrower than a double bed, so it may be more comfortable for one person than two.

Would you recommend a Single Row of Slats or Dual Row of sprung bed slats for a Small Double Bed Frame?+ -
For a Small Double Bed Frame, a single row of slats is ideal when used by one sleeper, as they will be sleeping in the middle of the bed frame. However, single row slats can also cope with two sleepers, although this may not be ideal on a long-term basis. If two sleepers are using the Small Double Bed Frame, we would recommend a dual row of slats for better support and to avoid disturbing each other when moving. With a dual row of slats, each sleeper can have their own set of slats, providing more even support across the bed frame and helping to ensure a more comfortable and restful sleep for both.

Certainly! Our UK Small Double Bed Frames are designed with standard M8 fixings on the back, specifically for bed frames without an integrated headboard. The distance between the fixing holes is set at 36" (91.4cm / 914mm), which allows you to easily attach a headboard of your choice to our bed frames.

What is the size different between UK small double, UK Double and European Double Bed Frames?+ -
The standard size for a UK Small Double bed frame is 4ft x 6ft 3" (120cm x 190cm). The standard size for a UK Double bed frame is 4ft 6" x 6ft 3" (135cm x 190cm). The standard size for a European Double bed frame is 140cm x 200cm (4ft7 x 6ft7). So the main difference between a UK Small Double and UK Double is the width, with the UK Double being 15cm wider. The main difference between a UK Double and European Double is the length, with the European Double being 10cm longer and 5cm wider.
